Hello, welcome to my blog, today I will discuss about my experiences during the past week. Visiting Elmira's community broadcaster radio station was a wonderful experience. It gave me an insight about the activities that goes on in the radio station. The class met with Smitty, he took the class around for a little tour, and he also introduced us to one of the tactics he uses in retaining listeners. This works by selecting from the ages 18-32, following her likes, dislikes, interests, personality, and wants, which will determine the contents aired on radio. He continued by stating this woman or selected age never grows, this is to be on the right track of what listeners want. He followed this up by stating the evolving change in a typical traditional radio station. As backup to that cause is a guest that was present at the radio station broadcasting live. This is different from the past as viewers could not see radio broadcasters. This is as a result of a fast and growing rate in the use of digital devices and social networks, e.g Facebook, Instagram, have updated features that makes viewers see what you do live.
The class was invited to a short conference hosted at Dunn Field, while community broadcasters were broadcasting it live. I was more than happy to be at community broadcasters radio station, because I've always imagined why radio stations exists. Also I've always questioned myself as a little kid if the people that talked on radio were just shy to show their faces on TV. And how do they get people to keep on listening to their offers.
The next class trip was to the Clemens Center. It was sad to find out that such a beautiful place has faced the risk of demolition, also the wonderful paintings were covered. It was nice to meet Karen, she enlightened the class about the theaters marketing strategies. One of which she focused on was pulling or improving younger age range interest in theaters "Clemens Center". Which is by making extravagant Broadway shows. Also i loved how she talked about the ghost light implying that there are no spirits in the theater but it is in fact a place for expression.
