Hughson_S, Week 3

Welcome to Week 3!

This week's topics is going to be on our three major trips from last week including the New York Wine & Culinary center, Community Broadcasters, and the Clemens Center! Our guest speakers were Keith Cummings, an EC alum, and Professor Hurdle.

The New York Wine & Culinary center was an amazing experience. We first took a tour of the facility and then were able listen to two of the biggest members of the company while being taught how to make homemade pasta. After that we were able to eat the food and taste some of the wine available! I found this trip really fascinating because we were taught how the building works as a promotional center for the wineries, breweries, and for companies to hold events. On top of that it is an educational facility and runs off of grants and fundraisers.

The following day we went down the road to Community broadcasters where we were able to learn how the radio business is not only surviving but a huge industry today. It was interesting to hear about all the developments and adjustments they are making in order to adapt to todays era and different generations who are all evolving into a more technologically advanced way of getting music, news, and being entertained through radio stations.

To end the week we visited one of Elmira's biggest assets, the Clemens Center. I was amazed to have been told how many times the center has been restored and had to be saved by the city residents because of outside reasons trying to take down the building and get rid of it. I found this interesting because of how important and vital the Clemens Center is to the city of Elmira. In Market Planning last term we read a lot into the Clemens Center and how it is a huge help in bringing outside people to not only visit but live and work in Elmira.

I also really enjoyed the "Ghost Light Project" that she spoke about, where they leave a ghost lantern on the stage to represent that no one is alone and you should feel not only safe but free to express yourself!
