Hill, S., Week 5

Welcome back!

This week our class traveled to New York's City to visit a digital agency, Big Spaceship, meet with an Elmira College alum, and we also got to meet Tommy Hilfiger's brother, Andy.

At Big Spaceship, we were able to meet with several of their employees and even the CEO. We began with a small tour of their open work environment, and then we received a presentation. In this presentation, we learned about what they do as a agency, their core principles, the companies that re their clients, and we reviewed case studies such as Dannon. Other companies they work with are Google, Youtube for their new launch of their gaming network, Under Armor, and they recently just took on jetBlue. When first walking into their office, I instantly recognized the relaxed the environment these people worked in. There were even dogs running around! These employees seemed to really love were they work and what they do.

After Big Spaceship, we met with an Elmira College alum for lunch. She gave us a brief oral presentation and also gave us some tips about life after college. Like we are learning in class, she discussed about the transition of traditional to digital marketing. Also, like many of the people we met with in NYC, she talked about social media and how it is on the rise in the marketing world. She then talked about media analyst career paths and the difference between the agency/consulting and the client side (products or entertainment). And yes, there is a huge difference. Lastly, she gave us some advice for the future as graduate college and turn to a career.

Lastly, we were able to meet Andy Hilfiger, Tommy Hilfiger's brother. This was an incredible experience. He talked about the line he is currently working. For this line, he is working with an artist and putting their artwork on clothing. He also discussed how social media plays a big role in his line because people are constantly posting about the clothing and he is able to tell which pieces consumers liked the best. He then showed us his clothing line for the fall and we were able to look through the clothing which was amazing. Overall, he was a wonderful guy and it was a great opportunity to meet with him and to be able to discuss about the fashion industry.

Sadly, this is my last post for our blog. I hope you enjoyed tuning in each week to discover what awesome experiences we had.
